Snow and seeds.

Today has been chilly and windy, and we got more snow.
From before there was just a thin layer of snow left on the ground from the last snowfall. Now the landscape is all white and snowy once more.
Maybe enough to go skiing one day soon?

Startskuddet for årets frøsådd gikk i dag :)

Earlier today I started up the first seeds of the season :)

Only a small amount of seeds actually, but it is a start...

I sowed two varieties of chilli pepper, 'Etna' and 'de Cayenne'.
In previous years I have had the habit of starting up way too many seeds, and ended up with too many plants. (I have learned the lesson that there is no need to sow every seed from the package, as they can be stored for several years).
This time I only planted six seeds of each variety. The seeds were soaked for 24 hours before sowing.
There never is a 100% germination, so if I end up with two or three plants from each variety I will be happy with the result.

The seed pots are placed inside a mini greenhouse by the window.
Eventually more pots will follow (and more mini greenhouses too).

Hello Hilde, so you got more snow too? I sowed some seeds of a tomato variety called tigerella a couple of weeks ago and some have already germinated.I have them on my kitchen windowsill which is very warm so I will nurture them until its time to plant them out.Enjoy the week!

Hi,Hilde.
It is so exciting to see your seeds growing! It is surly a sign of spring.
We have not had snow this winter here in Nara.

can´t wait to see your chilis growing! watching your own, homegrown plants is so giving and so much fun! Would you also plant some kitchen-herbs like Basil, oregano or thyme now?

I used to sow my tomato plants the end of February but as we don't have a greenhouse to put them in, they struggle to survive as they have to be planted outside too early. Now, I try to not sow them until halfway through or even the end of March.

Thanks for your nice comments, Red Rose, Yael and Datacreata :)

Good luck with your tomato seedlings, Anne :)

Kristin: I think so too, it is so nice to follow homegrown plants from seed to grown plant :) Very giving!
I have oregano and thyme in my garden already, so I do not need to sow them, but I will sow basil in a little while.

:-)

Hello, Hilde! In spite of the intense cold, it hasn’t snowed yet here in Nara. You must think you read the same kind of message, actually Red Rose and I live in the neighborhood.

Enjoy watching seeds germinate and grow. I look forward to your garden in summer. Stay warm.
