Stash-busting #2 - Sitting mats.

I have made two knitted and felted sitting mats.
(The colours are looking a bit gloomy together, but as I'm spending what I have in my stash this is how it is).
The green yarn has been lying around for years and it was good to finally knit it up.
The sitting mats were knitted with two strands of wool yarn on 8 mm needles, 70 stitches and garter stitch knit.
Before felting:

Og etter toving:

And after felting:

The size turned out well after felting, and the mats are soft and nice.

Felted sitting mats are light weight, take up little space and are great to put in the rucksack when going for a walk.
The wool is soft and warm to sit on, and the felted wool will not get wet outdoors.
Felted sitting mats can be washed in the washing mashine.

Ca. 225 grams of yarn was spent on each sitting mat, which means 450 grams of yarn destashed :)

Thanks, Kristin :) These felted sitting mats are really nice and practical, and this is also a great way to use up all those small balls of leftover yarn from other projects.

I LOVE this idea Hilde! I go for lots of hikes in the woods too. My daughter's Girl Guides group made 'sit-upons' which were basically pillow pockets that they filled with dried leaves ... but the leaves were invariably damp and then so was your bottom! The felting is the perfect solution. Can I ask what size you first knitted them up to prior to felting? I have some gnarly thick pure wool that would be great for this. And I think your colours are perfect for the woodland setting ;) Wendy

Thank you, Anna :) I'm happy with my mats, they will come in handy. I too think the colours blends perfectly in with the forest colours.

Thank you, Wendy, I'm so glad you liked the sitting mats. They are easy to make and so practical. (I have left a comment about the pattern for you on your blog).
