Signs of spring - Vårtegn 2013.

Elin/In the garden by the wood is organizing a little blog party for signs of spring 2013.
On Sundays we can share the signs of spring that we find in our gardens or the neighbourhood, and through the participating blogs we can see how spring developes around the country.

It is only a few days left to the spring equinox and the start of spring, but winter still claims the earth here.
Spring is later this year compared to last year. At the same time a year ago the garden was free of snow, and I had already spotted the first butterflies (!).

The clearest sign of spring is of course the returning light. The days are longer and that feels so good!!

The garden is still resting under a blanket of snow, and I did not count on finding many (if any) signs of spring when I went outside to have a look. But after only a few minutes I happily noticed several small and lovely signs that spring actually now is on it's way :)

My kitty joined me, and we went to have a look at those places in the garden where signs of spring usually appear first.
And what did we find?

When removing dry remains of last summers foliage we found the first daylily shoots peeping through.

Bladknopper på syrin, kaprifolium og beinved...

Buds forming on the lilacs, honeysuckle and spindle tree...

...og på morelltreet.
Rakler og bladknopper på vrihasselen.

...and on the sweet cherry tree too.
Catkins and buds on the corkscrew hazel.

And in an opening in the snow and ice by the corner of the house we found the first snowdrop shoots in the garden barely peeping through the soil. I have been waiting for the snowdrops, so this is so lovely!!
It is going to be interesting to see whether there will be any changes on this spot by next Sunday.
Have a wonderful and sunny new week, you all :)

I was gardening yesterday Hilde and spotted lots of signs of spring. The herbaceous perennials are popping up all over the garden now. There is snow forecast the next day or two so I hope it doesnt harm them.

All your photos and first signs of spring are lovely, and especially (of course!!!) your adorable kitty, who seems to know that spring is on its way! :)
Spring is later than usual here too... it is further ahead than in Norway, of course, but still, later than other years. And it's snowing right now!!
Have a wonderful week, dear Hilde! Hugs to you, and a little kitty hug to your sweet kitty from Zoe! :)

Beautiful photos! The longer days really are a joy aren't they? I love winter but I do miss the longer days. Your kitty is soooo cute! He looks very content sitting there in the sun :) Elisabeth x

Elisabeth: Oh, it really is good that the days get longer and lighter, and that make the energy levels rise too :)
My kitty is actually a girl, but she is pretty large and is often taken for a male cat. She doesn't like winter and snow, and stays mostly indoors during winter enjoying the comfort of a warm pillow or blanket :)

Thank you, Earthenmagic :) We had a nice walk in the sunny weather. My kitty always enjoys being around me when I'm outside in the garden.

Thanks Barbara :) At this time of year it's a thrill to look for spring, and it's so fun to find those signs that tell spring is on its way.
