October.

Now we have entered October.
It's autumn break here this week. The weather has been good so far, and I have been able to spend a little time doing some needed tidying and weeding around the garden. There's still lots to do out there though. Both the kitchen garden and the herb garden need to bee cleared out, and the remaining apples need to be harvested.

By the entrence to the house some very gloomy Impatiens have now been removed and some Ericas planted instead. It is looking much better now.

The vine climbing at the house entrance has pretty autumn colours.

Indoors the first christmas preparations have been made:

I have got the bulb vases out and started up hyacinth bulbs.
The bulbs are now resting in a dark and cool place in the cellar to grow roots. They will be brought up again in December, and if all goes well there will be blooming hyacinths for Christmas :)
Usually I have hyacinth bulbs of different colours, but as they had only white ones at the garden centre there will be nine white hyacinths this year.

What a lovely hanging basket. How wonderful to have hyacinths blooming at Christmas.

Wasn't it just last week that you were monitoring the receding ice from a shady part of your yard? Here we go again! Your hanging basket looks so pretty, and so does the vine with its autumn colouring. I like the idea of the blooming hyacinths for Christmas ... that reminds me ... I HAVE to dig up an amaryllis from the garden (should've done that a couple of weeks ago!). My gardens need a big tidy too, but I've been painting around windows outside instead (seemed more urgent). The pictures look so beautiful alike autumn, dear Hilde. At a friend's house, we have cut a lot of wine this week from the wall. I would like to grow wild wine here, too.

Beautiful!! I also have some Erica, but in a small pot on my balcony. My son brought it as a gift for me when he was shopping with hubby ;-). It's a pretty plant, isn't it!

Thanks you all for your visits and lovely comments :)

Birgit: Hyacinths are common flowers at christmas here, though I don't think it's a tradition for all people to have them. But it is for me, and I enjoy my own little tradition of starting up the bulbs, and bringing them into the livingroom in December :)
