Autumn dyes - part 2.

Back in August, about the same time as I started up the fermentation dyes, I also bottled a jar of lichen (lasallia pustulata), ammonia and water. The lichen was picked earlier in summer when we were on vacation by the sea. There this lichen was growing everywhere on the cliffs.

The jar rested for over a month, and during last weekend I strained off the lichen and started a dye from the dye extract.

Lasallia pustulata contains a strong colour agent, so I decided to fill up the dye pot well with wool.

Into the first dye I added 200g of wool plus four of those previously partly dyed skeins (from marigolds and dahlia).
Into the exhaust dye bath I added 250g of yarn and two previously partly dyed skeins.

The results of the lasallia pustulata dyes; 450g of wool in gorgeous pink shades.
(The darkest coloured skein is dye on grey wool).
The two skeins to the right are sock wool (80% wool+20% nylon). I was a bit uncertain to how they would take the dye but it worked very well :)

The multicoloured skeins were finished at the same time, and those skeins turned out looking like an explotion of colours. Compared to my previous tries to dye multicoloured wool this went very well!
The shades of colours were achieved from marigolds (yellow), dahlias (orange) and lasallia pustulata lichen (pinks).
I think the parts where the colour changes turned out well too.

I have to say I liked this combination of colours a lot, even though these are rather bright and untraditional shades for natural dyes .
It was fun dye multicoloured, and I will do more of that next summer :)

The lichen colour is fantastic but they all look good together, a bit like a summer garden in full flower!

I had immediately start looking for an image of this lichen. The color is gorgeous. Beautiful multi-colored woolen strands you have formed.
It almost looks a bit like summer...
