Mars / March.

It's March already.
We have had some mild and sunny days lately, and spring seems to have arrived. Yet March can be a bit moody, so the snow and chill might suddenly return.
In the meantime I enjoy the nice days of spring that we are having :)

Morgensol.

The morning sun.
I love it when the sun and the light returns!

The snowdrops by the house wall are blooming :)
The mild weather has made bulb flowers come up all around the garden too.
There are more snowdrops growing buds now, and soon the first eranthises will open.

Today I saw the year's first butterfly!!! A tortoise shell.
On the first day of March! That is the all time record for as long as we have lived here, I have never seen a butterfly this early in the year before.
First I saw one in the flower bed by the mound.

And then a little later two more butterflies sunbathing by the porch.

This is what my herb garden looks like on the 1st of March.
There is still frost in the ground, so I will have to wait a while before I can start tidying there. Now I am really looking forward to start gardening again.

Hello Hilde! Fantastic post regarding the weather in Norway!
Hope you are now very happy to look forward to a beautiful Spring and Summer to come.
I am a bit distracted with Medical research but it will be good for many once I get to a happy end.

Thank you for the very nice comment on my blog :-) These really are wonderful pictures! The light is magical, the butterflies are wonderful - I love butterflies, but we don´t have any colourful ones in Iceland.
We are longing for springtime over here too...

Did you know, that "sommerfugl" in icelandic means something like "bird of summer"? :-) lovely word...

The sun is back! Gorgeous shots by the way. You are an amazing photographer. Are you seeing a lot of aurora borealis lately? I heard that Norway's skies have been lit up.

I love your herb garden! I can't wait to see pictures of it when everything is in bloom. Also, those butterflies are gorgeous. I've never seen ones like that... and so big! Amazing. I hope the weather stays warm so they will survive. :)

I hope you're having a wonderful week! :)

Lovely pictures Hilde. Your herb bed looks wonderful, no doubt, it will be humming with bees and fluttering with butterflies all summer long. Yes, I too am sure we will have some more bad weather yet. In England we have a saying for March. In like a lamb (good weather), out like a lion (bad weather) and the same in reverse. As yesterday and today are going to be good, will probably be stormy at the end of the month.

Thank you for your kind comment on my blog !
I'm so happy I finally found a nice place to live !

So lovely to have found your blog and I see we have quite a bit in common!
Your tree and nature photos are very beautiful and I'm really fond of the Tortoise Shell butterflies... I often paint butterfly wings on my fairy characters.
The sun through the trees is incredible. Totally magical.

Best wishes,
Jo May.

Gorgeous pictures. Looks like spring is in the air. We have not had much of a summer here this year and winter is looming not so far away.

Nydelige bilder, Hilde!

Flotte bilder Hilde!

Winter and spring compete in March and eventually spring wins no matter how late. We’ll have three cold days and four warm days alternately – it is our typical March. How exciting for you to have seen butterflies already. I like the orange light radiating into the forest and the snowdrops are so lovely which never fail to make me smile. Look forward to your herbs germinating.
