Burot / Mugwort.

The time around the Summer Solstice and Midsummer is a time closely connected to flowers and herbs.
Some Midsummer traditions that go back a long time have been to gather morning dew from the grass to wash the face for young and beautiful skin, picking seven (or nine) different flowers to put under the pillow on Midsummer night to dream about your future husband, picking a Midsummer flower bouquet and making flower garlands.

At this time of year the herbs and flowers are at their most powerful; filled with the raising energy of the earth and of the light of the sun.

This summer I have so far harvested plants/herbs for natural dyes only, but early on the day of the Summer Solstice I went out to pick some mugwort.

Mugwort is one of my favourite herbs, I like its energy and its history. It is also a plant that belongs to the Midsummer tradition.
Today mugwort is unpopular because the pollen causes problems for allergics, and in several places around the country there have been organized actions to remove and reduce the amount of it.
Where I live it still grows in abundance, at least for now.

Mugwort is a strong magical plant, which has been used in traditional folk medicine both magically and as a medicinal remedy.
The old tradition has been to harvest mugwort before noon on Midsummer.

I found several stong and fresh mugwort plants to bring home with me.

Leaves and bundles ready to be put to dry.
When dried they will be used for smudging and cleansing.
Mugwort is also helpful when working with your dreams.

I love bundles of mugwort :)
When they are dry I will place them out on special spots around my house.

I love this post, thank you so much for this.
Here too the plants are most potent on midsummer but we're having a lot of rain the last few days so, not a lot of harvesting. It's a pity !
I love mugmort too and I always make some "smudge sticks" with like the native americans do.
Have a nice day Hilde

Thank you, Marylene :) We have had lots of rain and grey weather too lately. I can't wait for the sun to come out again, and for harvesting more herbs :)
