Tomatoes and weather.

Today the sun peeped through for the first time in a long time. It has been a beautiful sunny day, yet very chilly.
It felt so good to have light and sunshine again after so many grey and cloudy days.
I thought I would do some tidying in the kitchen garden, but because of the chill I changed my mind and decided to do something around the kitchen instead.

The green tomatoes that were harvested a little while ago have ripen indoors. We have been eating them as they turned red, but as there were so many ripe ones at the same time now I had to make something from them to avoid them being lost.
First I thought about canning the tomatoes, but as there were a few with stained skin I decided just to make a simple tomato sauce.

The tomatoes were skinned and cut, and simmered with some tomato paste, garlick and dried oregano from the garden.
It made about two litres of tomato sauce, for pizzas and pasta dishes.

Tomatsausen er lagt i fryseren for bruk senere.

The sauce is frozen to be spent later.

I also made a small facaccia.
The basic recipe I found in a newspaper (500 g flour, 10 g salt, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 15 g yeast and 3,5 dl water). I added some oregano (from the garden) to the dough, and topped it with tomato slices and a sprinkle of seasalt and fresh rosemary from my rosemary plant which has moved indoors for winter.
It was very tasty, and I will use the same recipe again later.

Later in the day we had a change in weather from sunshine to strong wind and hail.

Do you see the small dots in the sky in the photo above? Those are leaves tossed around by the wind, and it was lots of it at the same time, much more than showes in the photo! The whole sky was full of flying leaves.

Luckily only a little hail came down, while the freezing wind did not stop.
Tonight there is a beautiful clear sky, and we can once again see the moon and the stars :)

What an amazing sky colour. Whenever we get skies that colour, we know we are in for a dramatic time! I too still have tomatoes ripening indoors but as we keep eating them almost daily, are keeping on top of them.

Datacreata: Yes that was a very dramatic sky indeed. The sudden change of light and colour in the sky was amazing.
Lucky you to still have tomatoes left :) I can't wait for next summer to grow more... well, actually in only a few months it will be time to sow next summer's tomato plants.

Have a wonderful weekend :)
