Dandelion dye.

In nature the dye plants are popping up again.
Right now there are blooming dandelion everywhere, something which I have been wanting to try out for a natural dye.

On Saturday my daughter and I went for a walk around the neighbourhood, picking flowerheads of dandelion for the dye pot.
This was my first time dyeing with dandelion, and I was guessing the result would be yellow...

And it was, a beautiful sunny yellow, almost similar to the dandelion flowers :)
There are two types of wool; regular superwash wool, which dyed bright yellow, and a thicker wool yarn, which dyed a softer light yellow.

Yeah! The dyeing season is open :)
I should start too !
Great yellows ! Strange how superwash yarn always takes more dyes.
Have a nice day Hilde

These look great Hilde! I really like the bright yellow ... I'm surprised the superwash turns out brighter, I would've guessed the other way around. I wonder if you would get a soft green from just the dandelion leaves? Love your experimentations ;) Wendy

I would have never thought that you could get such a bright sunny yellow from the dandelions Hilde - all the beauty of them is in your wool now! :-)

You picked up many dandelions. Bright yellow and soft yellow, both of them are beautiful. There are a lot of dandelions flowering here too. I am thinking that I ?should try that?

Only one time, I dyed my silk scarf in yellow with dried brown skin of onions. That was beautiful too.
Enjoy your beautiful weekend!
