Safting / Making juice.

I have got a new juice maker :)
The old one I had was totally worn out. I usually make lots of juice in summer and autumn, and luckily this seems to be a good year of fruits, so it's nice to be prepared for the fruit harvest.

The new juice maker was tested yesterday with aronia berries. Those were picked last autumn and have been stored in the freezer.

The new juice maker is a little smaller than the old one, but a full basket produced ca three litres of juice, which is good I think. (This is a sweetened juice that is mixed with water to drink).
Now I will get on with making juice from last year's fruits and berries in the freezer.

The berries from the Aronia bush contain lots of antioxidants and has a lot of health benefits.
Around my neighbourhood aronia bushes grow as large bushes on public property or as hedges,  and they are mostly an unused resorse as the berries never get picked.
I have also planted two aronia bushes in my garden, but they are still small.
Aronia berries also combine well with apples or plums in juice and jelly.

Looks good -- I'm not sure what aronia berries are though. I'm surprised that you don't have to stem the beries, but I guess it makes sense when I think of it.

Thank you, Regina :) Sounds like you have been busy in the kitchen. It's fun and rewarding to make juices and jams isn't it :) Have a nice evening you too.

Thank you Sallie :) It's just the juice of the berries that goes through, so there's no need for thorough rinsing of what goes into the juice maker.
Hope you are having a great summer time!

Hilde, I love the way you are connected with nature and its treasures... and how you make use of them! Those self-made juices must taste heavenly! :)

Wow, I have never seen a juice maker like this before. Love that you are making use of those berries. Its amazing how much good food and herbs go to waste because people do not know what they are. I have been known to go foraging out and about myself. ;-) Hugs xoxo

I havent hear of aronia berries before Hilde. It looks like what we call sloes, which I think are related to plums. Are they like plums or blueberries?

klem

Thank you Karisma. How nice that you go foraging out and about, I do too :) Hugs.

Thank you Red Rose :)

Klem :)

Anne, they look quite like sloes (which grow here too), but they are not the same. The latin name of the bush is 'Aronia melanocarpa'.

Thank you Calendula, I certainly agree with you :)
